Statue is a big hit in Ulverston

19th April 2009 will be forever remembered by the Sons who witnessed the unveiling by Ken Dodd of the statue of Laurel and Hardy in Ulverston. Ken spoke passionately and sincerely about Stan and Ollie and was clearly moved by the occasion.

We will have more to report on this historic day when we come back down to earth! The Sons present and those who were unable to attend but who have played their part in making the statue a reality can be justly proud.

Graham Ibbeson

In October 1992 Bill Cubin had an idea to place a statue of Laurel and Hardy in Stan's home town of Ulverston and fund raising began.

In 2000 sculptor Graham Ibbeson was commissioned by the Sons of the Desert to design and create the statue. In a worldwide effort the Sons' raised the necessary funds to pay for the statue.

It is our gift to the people of Ulverston.

Our most sincere wish is that many future generations will remember and enjoy the work of Laurel and Hardy and their name will rightly live on forever in the world of comedy.
