Ulverston at Christmas
Many Sons have booked for
the Dickensian Christmas Festival in Ulverston on

the eleventh year for the Festival. It attracts
thousands of people to the special atmosphere of a
traditional market town in the Dickensian

Another mess
coming
The next meeting
of the Another Fine Mess Tent of Northern
Ireland will be on Saturday,
28th
November
at the Maynard Sinclair Pavilion, off the
Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast. They say,
"We'll have our usual Christmas
festivities, with plenty of games,
quizzes, not to mention great movies from
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The club
will be five years old at the end of the
month. Yes, it's official - we're five.
So, in order to celebrate this great
millstone, we'll also have a big birthday
cake and some surprises no
doubt."

Be Big on
Facebook
The Be Big Tent now has
its own page on Facebook (the social networking
website). The page is titled "Be Big Tent of
Manchester (Oasis 26)". The page will be updated
regularly with news of the tent's activities
and meeting dates. I have posted some old photos
from conventions on there with more to follow. All
Sons, former Sons and fans of Laurel and
Hardy are invited to link up with
us.

Focus on
Dennis
Many Sons have met or know
about Laurel and Hardy lookalikes Dennis "Stan"
Moriarty and Dale "Ollie" Walter of Canton, Ohio.
I have been friends with them for many
years. They have been to many Sons' events and
have worked tirelessly to help the folks in Harlem,
Georgia, to promote the Laurel and Hardy Museum and
also the yearly Oliver Hardy Festival for the past
sixteen years.
Some time ago, Dennis
suddenly lost his wife, Judy, someone that many of
us got to know and love over those many years - a
wonderful lady. It was a most difficult time
for Dennis, and a sad time for us that knew
them. After many months, Dennis joined a
social group for widows and widowers, where he met
a widowed, retired nurse. Their friendship
blossomed into a loving relationship and I was so
excited to hear that they were married
recently.
I met his new bride, Lois,
at the Oliver Hardy Festival in Harlem. Lois is a
very warm and friendly person and fit in so
perfectly with all of the "nutty" and
fun-loving Sons there. Dennis seems to be on
top of the world - so happy again. I know that
Dennis has many friends in the Sons and we all wish
him and Lois many, many years of health and
happiness.
And as we pause to
look back at Judy's legacy, I want to mention an
event that took place in Harlem. During
the reception that the City of Harlem hosts
for the visiting Sons on the Friday
evening before the Festival, Robin Root,
representing the City of Harlem's government,
announced that a tree would be planted
permanently on the side of the Museum, along
with a metal plaque, to honor the
memory of Judy Moriarty. It was such
a beautiful thing for the City to do and all
Sons there felt honored to be part of this
dedication and for all of us to
see the tree being planted.

On the
radio
I was getting ready for my
return to work on 5th October when my spirits were
raised by Sarah Kennedy's Show Tune slot on
Radio 2. . . The Trail of the Lonesome Pine
by Laurel and Hardy. It certainly cleared a few of
the Monday morning blues.
