The first European
Convention of the Sons of the Desert was held in
1993 in Rolduc, a 900-year-old abbey, now a hotel
and congress centre near Kerkrade in the
Netherlands, on the German border. For the tenth
European Convention, the Dutch Perfect Day Tent
will return to the countryside of
Limburg.
The tent promises that the
programme will contain the best elements of the
first European Convention. The film show will be
held most likely on Saturday in the fine theatre of
Rolduc that was built in the fifties and seats 400
people. There will be live music every night, a
banquet, a lunch in one of the Limburg grottos
(where the quiz might be held), a Parade of Tents
on the Point Where Three Countries Meet, a trip to
the holiday resort of Valkenburg and a big party on
Sunday night in the cellar bar The Prodigal
Son.
The cost has still to be
determined but the organisers promise to do all
they can to keep the convention fee (with
accommodation included) at a reasonable level.
Rolduc has hotel rooms in two categories. The
A-rooms have all facilities; the B-rooms are
simpler and cheaper, which will be reflected in the
convention fee.
